BYOP | Haunted Trail

Oh my gosh, I know that I am ridiculously behind with posts… BYOP was over a month ago and I just haven’t had time to process the photos. October was one of the business months on record for Weddings by Heather, which is such a blessing, but it means that sometimes blogs have to get put on the back burner. Anywho, I’m going to try to catch up over the next few weeks.

Last year we added a haunted trail to the list of BYOP events. We gave a few of the local neighborhood girls a modest budget and a mission. This year, we decided to get involved much earlier and help direct the project. It was a blast. This was the entrance.

Spanish moss was hanging everywhere.
We built many of the props ourselves to save money. The fence and gravestones were all homemade.
We bought cheap wooden pickets from Lowes and attached them loosely with rope to make the cemetery fence. Then the kids spray painted it.
We made the gate and the “brick” pillars.
This is zombie hill, notice the vertebrae on the big tree on the right.
Close-up of zombie hill, very spooky. There was as strobe light and a teenager hidden by the hill to scare unsuspecting trail walkers.
Another strobe light above the witch skeleton.
I think we had three cemetery’s, I will post the grave making process next.
We had the iPod set up with spooky sounds to add to the atmosphere.
This was werewolf cavern. Do you see those eyes at the top of the pile of wood? They glow and vibrate when people walk past. We also had a teenager stationed here. This was a cave (tarp held up with PVC pipe), there were lights and noises inside. A few of the little ones did not dare enter and turned back to the safety of their parents.

Our friend Michelle found this ghost, it would boo and “fly” on the line when someone walked by. So fun.
Bones sticking out of hay, because, well, why not?

Vacation Bible School

Craig and I had a great time helping with VBS last week. The theme was Saddle Ridge Ranch, so I rounded up some neighborhood cowfolk and took them with us.

I LOVED the western theme because a) I strongly believe I was meant to live on a ranch in the west, b) I got to wear my cowboy boots, c) I am enamored with cowboys. Remind me to tell you someday about the working ranch vacation I have planned. I posted more photos on Mt. Pleasant’s Facebook page.

JP’s Birthday Party

On Sunday Ella and I headed over to John Patrick’s first birthday party. Boy Boy had just gone down for a nap, so he and daddy stayed behind.

I like this picture of JP and Rachel’s dad, he loves his Pappy.

Ella and her new friend Angela.

I don’t think he was digging what was going on…

Until his mom gave him the good stuff!

He LOVED his cake and was shoveling it in as fast as he could. I personally think his mom took it away from him too soon, but don’t worry, I feel it my duty as Godmother to sneak stuff to him every once in a while.

ps. For some reason I was in a black & white/sepia type mood today. Must be the rain.

Young Scientist

Uncle Mike gave Ella this kit for Christmas because he knows how much she enjoys experiences. I am also proud to say that she enjoys watching the Science Channel.

Notice the beautiful array of crystals.

The box does say that, “results may vary.”

Ok, you’re right… let’s be fair and take them out of their containers so that they can stand on their own merit.

Or something.

My budding scientist was as proud as she could be of her crystals. She even suggested that we put them on a plate and use them as a centerpiece on the dinette table. I think that’s a wonderful idea.

Talent Show

I was shocked last year when my very shy 5 year old asked if she could be in the talent show with her friends. I wasn’t as surprised this year, they seem to have a lot of fun choreographing routines to their favorite songs.

Isn’t she starting to look grown up? Craziness, I tell you!

Proof that she is a rock star.

Her and Savannah sang and danced to “Like Whoa” by Aly and AJ. And now I walk around the house constantly singing… like… whoa.

My sweet girl did so well, I was beaming with pride.

I think that the responsible thing to do is stay for the entire talent show to support all of the kids, even if your child is early in the line up. This year, however, because the elementary schools are combined (College Square is being renovated) there were twice as many acts and I just couldn’t hang that long as it started to become painful.
